It is also a chance for AmeriCorps and SeniorCorps supporters to come together and learn how they can get involved in the growing service coalition. This free event is open to the public and will feature special guest speakers, a photo booth to take a picture holding up a sign stating why you Stand for Service, give aways and more. (RSVP required). National service is at the core of who we are as Americans. The spirit of service to country was bornover 200 years ago and continues to live strong through the nearly 1,000,000Americans that have served in AmeriCorps, Senior Corps, NCCC, and VISTA. But the tradition of national service in America is once again at risk. On March 21st, 2013 the United States House of Representatives passed a budget resolution that calls for the elimination of AmeriCorps and the entire Corporation for National and Community Service. While the final outcome of funding for national service in the FY14budget is still unclear, what we do know is that members of Congress will be negotiating the deal in the coming months and need to hear from their constituents to stand strong for service in America. With so much at stake, Stand for Service is asking every national service supporter in Maimi to join them to showcase the broad and diverse support national service enjoys in the country as a whole and highlights the enormous value it provides to Miami.
