Honorable Councilwoman Lisa Davis and the City of Miami Gardens teamed up to bring the first ever Wine and Food Experience to Miami Gardens. They invited four celebrity chefs to compete for the title of 2015 Miami Gardens Master Chef, and special guest speaker Omari Hardwick, who portrays a nightclub owner/drug dealer in the Starz original series, Power. Celebrity Chefs were Chef Myriam Charles (aka Chef Mimi), Chef Troy Tingling, Chef Alain Lemaire, and Chef Ali Francois (aka Chef Boy Ali).
There was live entertainment from musicians such as Jai Rose, Mariea Antoinette, James Dawkins, Jared Burnette, a poetry recital, performed by a group of young poets and more. There was also a cigar lounge by Figaro Cigars & Signature Cigar Lounge, live cooking demos featuring Chef James Lubin, Chef Neima Belancourt, Chef Boy Ali, and Chef Cecil, a massage parlor by Elizabeth’s Secret Beauty Bar and a raffle.
Before the competition between the celebrity chefs took place, Councilwoman Lisa Davis made a short speech to show gratitude to all guests attending and then invited the Mayor of Miami Gardens, Mayor Oliver G. Gilbert III, and to present a checked of $5,000 to benefitting charity, The Women’s Fund. A portion of the money raised from the event also went towards diabetes awareness.
They invited chefs from all over South Florida and juice entrepreneurs to participate in the event. All chefs, including the four celebrity chefs, were also doing a mini competition for the best dish of the night. Each chef at the event presented at least two separate dishes for everyone to enjoy. Some of these dishes included were Chef Lemaire’s chicken and waffles, served along with sweet and spicy meatballs and a coconut shrimp, A to Zina’s key lime tart and sweet potato tart and AJAS Catering/ Sweet & Savory Catering, mac n’ cheese served with pork rib and their own variation of corn bread. Guests were also given the choice of tropical drink mixes provided by Hennessey, Tito’s Handmade Vodka, Pakk, and Bahama Breeze.
