Illuminate the Night at Brickell City CentrePosted on: December 1st, 2015 by SoFlaNights.com
Brickell City Centre, and Swire Properties transformed a construction site, a $1.05 billion development in the heart of Miami’s Brickell district into a dynamic art oasis for one night only. Although the event was private, all of Miami was be able to experience the inaugural lighting of the $30 million CLIMATE RIBBON™, architecture firm Arquitectonica’s and designer Hugh Dutton’s 150,000 square-feet masterpiece of art and science inspired by the Caribbean, trade winds and breezes, and by flow and movement. An elevated trellis that connects the project’s three city blocks, the CLIMATE RIBBON™, was glowing in radiant blue light, creating a new Miami landmark visible from miles away.
The event also showcased the unveiling of British Pop artist Allen Jones’ six-ton, 20-foot-high sculpture “Dancers,” making its U.S. debut. The abstract sculpture, which depicts an interlocked, tango-ing couple, has been showcased at the famed Royal Academy of London as recently as 2014. Setting the tone for the night were celebrity DJ Duo Wooden Wisdom (Elijah Wood + Zach Cowie), featuring vinyl-only paradise garage sounds.
“As Brickell City Centre nears completion, we look to celebrate the world’s largest art fair in our city and in our project. This is the perfect occasion to showcase our CLIMATE RIBBON™, a structure we once envisioned as an important sustainable climate management structure but what has now come to resemble a beautiful piece of art,” said Stephen Owens, President of Swire Properties Inc.
