Alexander Mijares Unveils “Freedom”Posted on: December 2nd, 2015 by SoFlaNights.com
Acclaimed Artist Alexander Mijares unveiled his latest and most anticipated works of art at a VIP cocktail reception during Art Basel 2015. Widely popular throughout Miami and beyond for his vibrant and bold works of art, Mijares’ primary source of inspiration is rooted in his Cuban heritage; the first generation Cuban-American has been featured in many publications. The centerpiece of his Art Basel 2015 show, entitled Freedom, will bring his cultural inspiration full circle.
Mijares’ Art Basel 2015 show, Freedom, is set to make Cuban-American history in Miami. Using an authentic Cuban refugee boat that washed ashore Islamorada, FL with 16 Cuban refugees as his canvas, Mijares turns an authentic relic into a larger-than-life piece of art, that tells the story of countless immigrants who have made the journey from Cuba to South Florida. The historic piece of art will be auctioned, with 50% of the profits donated to the families of the refugees who arrived on it. #creatingSmilesWIthArt #MijaresArt @mijares
