Art Basel VIPs got together for the exclusive #BeyondBasel cocktail party and art exhibition at the Soho Beach House, benefiting two leading type 1 diabetes organizations: the Diabetes Research Institute Foundation (DRIF) and Beyond Type 1 – which was co-founded by musician and movie star Nick Jonas and this season’s Bravo TV Top Chef All Stars contestant celebrity chef Sam Talbot.
Guests enjoyed cocktails, light bites, and DJ performance, while having a chance to bit original artwork, a custom tattoo, an autographed Epiphone Les Paul Guitar from Nick Jonas, ‘Cocktails and Brunch for 8’ at private home by Chef Talbot, a photo of Beyond Basel Host Committee member NBA Legend and former Miami HEAT star Ray Allen’s “The Shot” – which he will sign in person for winning bidder at a special meet and greet. The evening also featured three talented artists, who are all thriving in their careers despite living with type 1 diabetes.
Miami-based tattoo artist Darren Brass – who was featured on TLC / Discovery’s popular reality show Miami Ink. He is also co-owner of the edgy kids’ clothing line Ruthless Toothless, and one of the resident artists of Miami Beach’s famous Love Hate Tattoos Shop.
Houston-based multi-media artist Natalie Irish – who creates beautiful portraits of people and iconic celebrities such as Marylin Monroe and Audrey Hepburn – using only lipstick and her own lips.
New York-based street artist, photographer and sculptor Appleton, who has been raising awareness about diabetes through his graffiti and paintings featuring insulin bottles, needles, and broken vials.
