2014 Fairchild Gala In The GardenPosted on: January 31st, 2014 by Deondra Clark
On a regular day Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden is home to many educational programs that teach conservation science to more than 200,000 local schoolchildren. The garden is assembled by a world-class collection of rare tropical plants within the breathtaking landscape design of William Lyman Phillips. But on February 1, 2014, it was transformed into a beautiful and enchanting fundraiser known as Gala In The Garden. The celebration is honoring the Garden’s 75th year history.
This year’s black-tie event was co-chaired by Swanee DiMare and Frances Sevilla-Sacasa. The annual event attracts more than 400 guests who were greeted with a cocktail reception, as they bidded on luxury items at the silent auction. As the band “Soul Survivors” set the atmosphere with heartwarming music, the guest were wined and dined by renowned known chef “Alejandro Muguerza” of Le Basque Catering. Guest also enjoyed words of wisdom spoken by some of the board members of Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden. But by the end of the night guests were dancing by the moonlight surrounded by the Lakeside Marquee’s breathtaking décor.
As a cultural leader in the community, Fairchild showcases many art exhibits, concerts, and festivals that draw thousands to the garden. Some of the known festivals are the International Mango Festival and the International Chocolate Festival. Even though these are spectacular events, Fairchild makes sure to add an educational component with local and global experts giving lectures, talks, and classes. Fairchild will continue to be a gateway for education with all proceeds supporting programs in conservation science, education and horticulture, the fundraiser will keep Fairchild moving forward while staying true to the original vision of the founders – to provide a beautiful tropical garden for all to enjoy.
