Solar Eclipse Celebrations in South Florida

Solar Eclipse Celebrations in South FloridaMonday, August 21, 12pm-5pm – South Florida

The eclipse will be visible – weather permitting – across all of North America. The whole continent will experience a partial eclipse lasting two to three hours. Halfway through the event, anyone within a 60 to 70 mile-wide path from Oregon to South Carolina will experience a total eclipse. During those brief moments when the moon completely blocks the sun’s bright face for 2 + minutes, day will turn into night, making visible the otherwise hidden solar corona, the sun’s outer atmosphere. Bright stars and planets will become visible as well. South Florida isn’t in the total blackout zone, but we will see about an 80 percent eclipse around 1pm EST. If your local library has run out of glasses, click here to view a list of reputable vendors that may still be selling them. Here are few places hosting Solar Eclipse observation parties:

12pm-3pm – South Florida Amateur Astronomers Association & The Fox Observatory, 16001 State Road 84, Sunrise
Come observe the Solar Eclipse with South Florida Amateur Astronomers Association & The Fox Observatory.
