Jackson Health Foundation’s Guardian Angels will hosts the 19th Annual Guardians of the Children Luncheon benefiting Holtz Children’s Hospital, in partnership with Saks Fifth Avenue Dadeland. This year, Saks Fifth Avenue Dadeland will be presenting the Resort 2018 Collections at the dazzling JW Marriott Marquis in Downtown Miami. Proceeds from the luncheon will be used to support Holtz Children’s Hospital, known worldwide for its team of pediatric specialists experienced in treating children with all types of needs — from routine care to life-saving procedures. More than 500 philanthropists and community leaders are expected to attend the luncheon. This year’s Guardian Angels Host Committee President, Silvia Rios Fortun, will be joined by luncheon co-chairs Vivian Adrian, Angela Andrade & Mari Grimalt. The guest of honor will be eight-year-old patient, Julia, who received life-saving treatments at Holtz Children’s and the UM/JM Burn center after being in a serious car accident along with her family. Julia suffered third-degree burns and is still recovering after going through 14 procedures, including a skin graft. 34th Annual Miami Book Fair

The 34th annual Miami Book Fair returns to the streets of Downtown with more than 450 authors across all genres, including fiction, nonfiction and children’s literature. The week-long event, which culminates in a weekend street fair, features exclusive presentations by venerated literary figures, as well as pop-culture personalities and first-time novelists. The official opening of the Book Fair will begin with Light’s On At The Porch on Nov. 12 at 4 p.m. This event will include music, food trucks, outdoor games, a community coloring wall from The Wynwood Coloring Book, Silent Poetry Disco curated by the Academy of American Poets, outdoor photo exhibits, the Miami Stories Recording Booth and Biscayne Bay Brewing Beers. The Porch, which began in 2015 and is considered one of the hot spots of the Book Fair, will feature a lineup of local performers, including improv, comedy, live music, cabaret, film and art all week long. Another Book Fair staple is the Street Fair, which will take place Nov. 17 through Nov.19, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Participants who purchase a ticket will be able to walk the streets between the Wolfson Campus and see an array of books, including comic books and graphic novels and various other exhibitors. The Fair will also feature the IberoAmerican Program, which will include more than 80 authors from around the world, including Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Spain and more to take part in a series of readings and discussions ranging from the reach and limits of Latin American populism to a tribute in honor of  One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel García Márquez. Tickets for the Book Fair are free on Nov. 17 and will be $8 the weekend of Nov. 18 and Nov. 19.
