National Lobster Day

For the third year in a row, the Maine Lobster industry will celebrate National Lobster Day on September 25th, 2017. The resolution, authored by Senators Angus King and Susan Collins of Maine, designates the national holiday recognizing the 5,600 hardworking independent lobster-men and women in Maine, and their long history of sustainable fishing practices. The Maine Lobster Marketing Collaborative will be celebrating the national holiday encouraging chefs and consumers across the country to enjoy Maine Lobster and recognize the individuals who for generations have sustained this vital industry.

All Quarterdeck locations have an exciting Lobster Day special on deck. With the purchase of any beverage, alcoholic or non-alcoholic, guests can purchase a 1 ¼ pound Maine lobster with any side for $16.99.

Shooters has all your lobster needs covered this Lobster Day. Their lobster salad, which includes broiled Maine Lobster, corn, celery, red onion, basil, parsley, lemon and bibb lettuce, is a must-order menu item and costs $20.

21st Brazilian Film Festival of Miami

21st Brazilian Film Festival of MiamiSeptember 17 – 24, 6pm-11pm – Savor Cinema + Miami Beach Cinematheque + Regal South Beach, Miami Beach

From September 17th to 19th, Miami Beach Cinematheque will have for the first time a program dedicated to Latin American productions with a selection of three films from across the Americas showcasing the best of Latin American creative powers. Venezuelan biopic El Malquerido kicks off Mostra Latina, followed by Uruguayan LGBTQ comedy, Las Toninas van al este. Both films will screen on Sunday, September 17 at the Miami Beach Cinemateque. The third Latin film is O Gato de Havana, featuring a collaboration between Cuban and Brazilian producers screening on Wednesday, September 19 at the Cinematheque. The Latin series will count also with Silence of the Sky (2016), by Marco Dutra and the documentary Cinema Novo (2016), by Erik Rocha, winner of the L’Oeil d’Or at 2016 Cannes Film Festival.

And at Savor Cinema, the former Cinema Paradiso in Fort Lauderdale, the Festival brings among other films the highest Brazilian grossing comedy film of all times My Mom Is A Character II (Minha mãe é uma peça II) (2016), by Cesar Rodrigues, winner of the 17th Brazilian Film Festival of Miami, Indigo Child (Menina Indigo) (2017), by Wagner Assis, Beatriz (2015) by Alberto Graça and Behind the Sky (Por trás do céu) (2016), by Caio Sóh.

From September 20th to 23rd, the Competitive screenings will be held at Regal South Beach 18 & IMAX. At the festival’s Closing Night the Crystal Lens Award will be given to the best feature film voted by audience followed by the screening of Elis (2016), by Hugo Prata. The life of Elis Regina, undoubtedly the greatest Brazilian voice of all time. The Closing Night FREE screening will take place in SoundScape Park at the New World Center with a screening of João, O Maestro, a film based on the life of Brazilian piano prodigy João Carlos Martins. #braff2017 #brazilianfilmfestival #BRAFFMIAMI #inffinito


B the Difference’s Claws for a Cause

Oceans 234 is teaming up with B The Difference to host Claws for a Cause in the fight for a cure for Neurofibromatosis. Don your best resort wear for a fabulous beachside Lobster Bake – with all the fixings – Tito’s Handmade Vodka cocktails, Attitude by Pascal Jolivet wines from Frederick Wildman & Sons and sounds by DJ Charlie Cortes. The sunset soiree will take place Sunday, September 24, 2017 from 6PM to 9PM. Non-shellfish options will be available. This event supports B The Difference in their effort to raise funds for research to finding a cure for Neurofibromatosis (NF) and supporting individuals and their families battling NF through the B Happy Program. The B Happy Program allows individuals with NF and their families the opportunity to embark on a once in a lifetime all-inclusive vacation to a dream destination within the United States, leaving the worries of everyday life, hospitals and troubles behind. B the Difference seeks out recipients, works with families on custom itineraries and chaperones all B Happy trips. Tickets are $75 per person. A portion of the proceeds goes directly to assisting individuals who are battling Neurofibromatosis.
